Let the journey begin!
The big travel day VOL 1
I used to love airports as a kid. Now there's nothing that could make me go into one, except for a strict time limit between the agreed start date of the trip and the beginning of the internship.
If I was to do this again, I'd leave more time for getting settled before starting work. However busy it would be while packing and arranging things at home I think I'd prefer that over trying to get to the destination in a hurry.
It is a shame to leave my personal trainer (in the pics) and all the others but at the same time I'm ready to get going. The best part of leaving is that you get to come back.
Masterplan
The plan is to go to Tallinn by ferry, take a flight from there through Riga to Frankfurt, and then a train to Cologne.
I'm not sure what my problem is, but I have to wait until the last possible minute so I can start packing. Normally that means some poor choices I regret later. Doesn't matter how many times I'm packing at 3am and cursing this habit, I don't seem to learn. If somebody knows how to fix this please let me know.
This time while packing I also noticed that the backpack was broken. I was very lucky to find an emergency solution through Tori.
READY, SET, GO!
LAEVAPILETID because they've got all the possible connections in one place.
The first leg of the trip: Helsinki to Tallinn
I'm going to Helsinki already the previous day and will take a ferry to Tallinn on Sunday morning. We had a chance to grab a beer with a friend and catch up. I could also wake up at a decent time in the morning and have a much more relaxed journey.
I prefer a slower way to travel for many reasons. One of them is the possibility at the ferry to spend some time on the deck. I like to put on a good playlist and focus for a minute on checking my thoughts. This has become some kind of ritual by now.
I find that I’m a bit different depending on the country and especially the language I’m using. When traveling I like to try and be a bit more alert and ready to react. Taking this time helps me feel more present and open toward the things that are going on.
I left as much time as possible between the ferry and the flight so there was a chance to chill in Tallinn for a couple of hours. I don’t mind waiting; reading a book, listening to podcasts, or having a random chat with someone else who has time.
